City Beautiful – the title that we all in Chandigarh so proudly boasts about is one that Chandigarh must most zealously preserve. Not only the administration, but we all should do our bit in keeping Chandigarh beautiful till eternity.
Traffic nuisance and the resulting environmental degradation and crowded roads are huge menace for Chandigarh are major problems today. And fortunately, the Chandigarh administration is sensitive enough to take productive and result-oriented steps to nip the problem in the bud. Shifting to environmental friendly transportation is always the best solution and that is the reason the dedicated cycling tracks are even included in the Smart City project and many have already been created at many roundabouts in the city like Sector 26 roundabout.

In another laudable move by Chandigarh administration, 10,000 bicycles will be placed at 600 busy points around the city. Under the Chandigarh Smart City Limited, tenders for public bicycle sharing system have been invited. The bicycle sharing system should cover the entire city to ensure and promote use of bicycle as a practical and easy way to use alternative transport system.
Bicycle sharing points would be introduced at Sector 17 Plaza, Panjab University, Sukhna lake, Rose garden and other major places around the city.
As per the terms and conditions of the tender, only those companies are eligible to apply for this which a prior experience for setting up and operating at least one such bicycle sharing system with 500 bicycles for a minimum of three years. The conditions also state that business should presently be in operation and have a current annual turnover equivalent to Rs 20 crore or more. The companies will give a presentation. The expression of interest has to be sent by February 22.
