JW Marriott Chandigarh Dedicates Women’s Day To Empower Underprivileged Women Entrepreneurs

International women’s day is a day of celebration and reflection. Today we contemplate on the progress made to promote and protect women’s equality and human rights. In-line with the global theme for International Women’s Day 2019, ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’, JW Marriott Chandigarh is celebrating this day by creating a platform to aid  the progress of underprivileged female entrepreneurs.  Celebrating and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit of underprivileged women associated with the all-women NGO, Chhoti Si Asha (CSA), JW Marriott Chandigarh is hosting a Handicrafts Exhibition of goods made by the members of CSA.

To be held at The Cafe @ JWthe Handicrafts Exhibition will have female entrepreneurs exhibiting their latest exclusive collection of hand-crafted bags and file folders for patrons of JW Marriott Chandigarh to buy on the spot and also order for more.

The platform created by JW Marriott Chandigarh is designed to enable the members of Chhoti Si Asha  to reach out to a wider target audience with their handicrafts.

“Our focus is to encourage more women entrepreneurs to come forward and start such initiatives that help uplift the underprivileged sections of the society besides keeping the traditional handicrafts alive,” said Mr Ramandeep Marwah, General Manager, JW Marriott Chandigarh while expressing his delight at the opportunity to host this wonderful handicraft exhibition. “At JW Marriott Chandigarh, we have always been hands-on in implementing innovative ways in which one can advance gender equality and the empowerment of women, starting with our internal management. It is the result of our efforts in this direction that the property today has more women than men in the managerial roles,” he added.

A part of the Stitch-a-Living project, the members of CSA have created a corporate merchandise line and a fashion line of handcrafted bags and file folders the sale of which help the members become financially independent and encourage more women to take up entrepreneurial projects for the betterment of the society. Shares Ms Liza Chawla, the founder of Chhoti Si Asha, “The members of Chhoti Si Asha are capable women leaders who are managing the entire operation from procuring raw material to hand-making goods, to selling them on their own. They only require support and encouragement that they can go ahead and launch their products in the mainstream market as well. Platforms such as that of JW Marriott Chandigarh can instill that confidence and ensure that their products have the desired reach.”
