Helpline Created to Assuage ‘Demonetisation Distress’

Coming to the rescue of the people facing problems in exchanging and withdrawing cash in Chandigarh, the UT administration has announced the setting up of a helpline for customers to answer their related queries.

“Keeping in view of the problems faced by general public of Chandigarh after demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, the Chandigarh Administration has decided to designate a Helpline number 1860-180-2067 to answer the concerns/queries of the general public relating to availability/withdrawal of currency from the ATM’s/ banks,” said an official spokesman.

The spokesman has also revealed that there has been instances of many bank officials refusing to exchange the currency due to the absence of bank accounts in the concerned branches.

“Currency can be exchanged from any bank irrespective of the fact whether they hold any account in the same bank or not. If any bank refuses to exchange the currency, they can contact the helpline number and necessary help will be provided immediately.

The helpline number will work from 8 am to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday, he said.
