Entrepreneurial Vibes Take the Tricity by Storm at Udyami'17

Entrepreneurship, for some, is a cool thing to do about, while others perceive it as a seat of thorns. For some, it is all about ideas, while for others, execution is all that matters. Whatever the case may be, everything came to the forefront and was discussed elaborately at the Annual Entrepreneurship Summit of Panjab University, Udyami’17.

The 3-day event organized on 24-25-26 February 2017 at PU Campus witnessed an amalgam of thoughtful discussions, fun, and learning. Panel Discussions, Talk Sessions, competitions and more….Udyami’17 made sure that there’s something for everybody. Here’s a recap.

Day-1 Udyami’17

Udyami’17  was formally inaugurated by Prof. Renu Vig, Director, UIET and Mr. Akshay Ahuja, Founder of RoboChamps. The events kicked off with the ‘BYOC Business Quiz’, in which about 32 teams from all over the north participated. A very intense, and thought-provoking panel discussion on the much-hyped topic of “Finance -Tech” followed the business quiz. The panelists in the discussion were some of the best people to understand the various aspects of financial technology: Mr. Varun Agarwal (COO, Mymoneykarma); Ms. Amanjot Kaur (Director, IFM); Mr. Kunal Nandwani (Founder, uTrade Solutions) and Mr. RamaBhadran Thirumalai, (Professor, Finance, ISB Hyderabad)The discussion touched deeply the topics of financial management, personal wealth management, financial planning and the future of financial technology.

Going by the theme of this year’s event, Think-Plan-Pitch, a workshop on “Idea Generation”,  was delivered by Mr. Samip Jain and Ms. Nidhi Sharma, both MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp Alumni.

The day ended on a high note with some very competitive, fierce and real-time bidding, going high and wild, at the flagship competition Bid Your Own Company.

Day-2 Udyami’17

The entrepreneurial vibes resumed with the same intensity and vigor on the day two, which first witnessed the tour-panning competition, Creatour. The second up on the day was a very interesting talk series on ‘Spheres of Entrepreneurship’. The talks were delivered by some of the finest speakers, experts in their fields. First up, Mr. Girish Ahirwar (Founder Maxtron Innovations), which is one of his many ventures, talked about his own model of switching from one startup to the other, and having it all!! Next, Ms. Pritika Mehta, a qualified Data Scientist and the Curator of TEDx Chandigarh emphasized the need to learn Data Science and the future of jobs in its context.

Mr. Simarpreet Singh (Founder, MindBatteries) absolutely mesmerized the students with his witty, yet insightful take on things. Simarpreet talked about “Things I wish I knew in College”. Mr. Stanzin Dawa, who is the Regional Director of RGNIYD, focussed his talk on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The day ended well with a B-Plan making Workshop and an enthralling competition, Plan-A-Throne.

Day-3 Udyami’17

The third and final day saw no less enthusiasm and excitement. Because it was actually a big day. The crux of Udyami and its purpose lies in helping startups find the mentorship and investment they deserve. And this was accomplished by organizing live pitching sessions for the startups from tricity, in front of a very esteemed panel of startup mentors and investors. Startup of the Event, SOTE is what it is called. As many as 12 different teams pitched their ideas in front of the panel which comprised of members from NASSCOM, SACC, CAN, Innov8 and Igniting Entrepreneurs. Wooh! An opportunity of a lifetime it must have been for the startup founders. The other big thing on the last day was the crowd favorite,

The other big thing on the last day was the crowd favorite, “Intern Fair”. A fair of internships and interns, it literally was. At the mega event, more than 300 internships were put on offer by 15+ companies, including the likes of UBER, Xenon Stack, Northen Tech, Outsourcing Technologies, Chandigarh Metro Media and many more. Students interviewed with professional HR’s and their skills to the real test. A heck of an opportunity it was! The day ended with a shot and crisp closing ceremony, in which the winners of various competitions were prized.


The 3-day event, being one of a kind event in and around the city, is indeed a much appreciated and much-liked event, as was reflected by the numbers that flocked the venue, and by the words that embraced the testimonials.
