Chandigarh Prepares for NRIs Coming Back Amid COVID-19

With easing of lockdown relaxations and city residents especially those stranded abroad flying back to city, Chandigarh administration has its shields up to contain any chances of coronavirus spread through them. Therefore, mandatory testing for coronavirus has been ordered for all the NRIs, though such a compulsion is not in protocols of Government of India.

Around 5000 city residents are expected to return from abroad in 10 flights from different parts of the world. These flights will arrive between May 13 to May 22. Eight flights at Amritsar International airport & two at Chandigarh International Airport

In the first batch, five have reached, four from Singapore and one from Dhaka, have reached on Tuesday night.

Administration has made their stay and lodging arrangements at government and private hotels in the city.

In addition to above hotels, administration has also finalised more economical options for those who cannot afford stay in private hotels:

  • Panchayat Bhawan in Sec- 18 (for Rs 1288 per day & Rs 400 for 3 meals per day)
  • 50 rooms with attached bathrooms in Girls Hostel No. 10 in Panjab University at Rs 100 per day as rent/meal charges.
