Chandigarh Admn Turns Sterner towards Violation of COVID-19 Precautionary Measures

UT Chandigarh administration had been mooting the idea of introducing weekend curfew and had proposed such curfew in tricity- Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula- to Punjab and Haryana administration. But the proposal hit the wall with Punjab rejecting the proposal. Though decision on weekend curfew is deferred to next week with ‘a fresh view’, Chandigarh administration has turned sterner with any violation of COVID-19 precautionary measures. 

On the directions of UT administrator, VP Singh Badnore, Chandigarh top officials, including DC Mandip Brar & SSP Nilambari Jagadale, SDM’s, DSP’s, MC officials have and began the drive around the city to keep a check on people not adhering to the social distancing norms/not wearing masks.

Flag marches are done within sectors, public places to spread awareness on importance of wearing masks and observing social distancing norms.

UT administrator has directed MC Chandigarh to conduct surprise checks in various markets for violation of social distancing norms. If major violations are found, that particular market/shop could be closed for the safety of residents. Even municipal officials and police have been directed to conduct more field inspections and checks whether the residents are following home quarantine norms.

Outstation visitors to Chandigarh will be strictly screened at the borders to be ensured and action will be taken against those who violate night curfew orders.
