On the very first day, the UT excise & taxation department has collected ₹2 crore in license fee after the UT Chandigarh administration allowed bars in hotels, restaurants, clubs to open which had been closed since March 24 due to covid pandemic.
License fee a must to run bars
License fee for the year 2020-21 is mandatory, only after that a permit to open bars is issued.
Most of the bars to open from around 10th September
It is expected that most of the bars will now start functioning from around September 10. However, those hotels & restaurants which are already operational have started their bar services.
Additionally, bar owners have cited operational hiccups like renovation, unavailability of staff for delay in resuming bar services.
The bar timings for the purpose of sale, service and consumption in the city are 11:00 AM to 01:00 AM (past mid-night) throughout the year, except on dry-days.
The last order for liquor can not be booked after midnight i.e. 12 O’clock.
