Tricity Freezing | Minimum Temperature Dips to 1.8° C. Further Drop Expected

Chandigarh weather reached to its freezing level on Friday night. The minimum temperature in tricity was recorded 1.8°C at the Airport observatory. Mercury in Chandigarh touched 3.2°C. It was the coldest night of the season.

Last year, the temperature had dipped to 0.7°C. Though Chandigarh has seen mercury dropping to freezing temperature of 0°C three times in its recorded history. It was in January 28, 1973; January 6, 2007 & January 24, 2008.

The Meteorological Department has predicted further drop in temperature. “Cold wave conditions are likely to persist for the next five days,” said Surender Paul, Director of Meteorological Department in Chandigarh.

“The night temperature is likely to dip further by a degree or two, while the day temperature is likely to remain the same.”

Contrary to chilling nights, the day temperature has seen a rise in the Chandigarh. Saturday, it was 17.3°C, while Friday witnessed 13.3°C. However the mercury was still three degree below normal.
